Danceworks KC, a dance studio in Kansas City, has offered classes in ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop and more for over 30 years. All classes are taught by highly-qualified professionals with the experience and dedication to guide, inspire and nurture all students in their dance training.

We offer competitive and recreational dance opportunities for ages 2.5 and up. Check out our schedule for a list of current classes.

Introducing: Lydia Holland⭐️

Lydia grew up as a competition dancer for 15 years in Overland Park then decided to continue her training at Theater Arts Preparatory School where she studied in dancing, singing and acting. Since then, she has performed Mary Poppins, Wonderland (swing), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (staring David Archuleta), Tarzan (swing and assistant dance captain), Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the regional premiere of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She is trained in numerous styles of dance and has experience performing, teaching and choreographing all around the US.

“It is so hard to pick a favorite style as I love them all! However, I would have to say musical theater jazz is my favorite to do and stretch, technique and tap are my favorites to teach.”

“One of my favorite parts of being a dance teacher is leading our dancers to be kind and successful people. I also love seeing them take care of each other and show their hard work at dance competitions.”

Introducing: Lizzy Torres⭐️

Lizzy started dancing at the age of three at Springfield School of Dance located in Springfield, MO before moving to Tiffany’s Performing Arts. She studied dance at The University of Kansas and graduated with her BA in Dance. During college, Lizzy was active in the University Dance Company as well as an on campus organization called Unity Hip-Hop. She is trained in Hip Hop, Contemporary/Lyrical, Jazz, Ballet, and Pom. Her favorite styles to teach are Pom and Hip Hop!

“My favorite memory at DWKC is when I came back to teach after taking a small break and being welcomed back with open arms from both the staff and my students.”

“I love being a dance teacher because it gives me the opportunity to teach my young dancers all of the important dance and life skills that I was taught. Teaching dance allows me to show my students that each of them add their own strength and play their own important role in every routine.”

Introducing: Kelly Edgar⭐️

Kelly trained at Legacy School of the Arts with former members of Kansas City Ballet for 15 years and also trained at the Culture House as well. She received her degree in Music and Theatre from K-State in 2018 and has been teaching ever since!

“My favorite style to teach is, of course, ballet! I love the structure of each exercise but the freedom at the same time to express yourself through the prescribed movements.
My favorite DWKC memory is definitely this past recital, Kaleidoscope! I loved watching the studio show off all their hard work!”

“I love teaching dance because I love helping students have fun while going outside of their comfort zone. I also love to help them find ways to take care of their body, soul and mind through movement”

Introducing: Sonja Schulz⭐️

Sonja has a BFA in Dance from the University of Iowa but originally grew up in the Chicago area! She trained at Cimino Dance Studio, Aerial Dance Chicago, and her high school’s fine arts dance program, Orchesis. This dance program greatly influenced her in wanting to pursue dance for the rest of her life!

“My favorite styles are ballet and modern, but I really do love all styles! I love teaching ballet and tap!”

“I always love working with younger dancers and seeing them grow in their dance journey! I love seeing their creativity and also getting to choreograph pieces and see how they bring my visions to life! Teaching also continues to push me to be a better dancer and teacher, knowing the whys, passing down that knowledge to students, seeing how they grow each year and get to perform.”

Introducing: Audrey Holland⭐️

Audrey has more than 20 years of dance experience & trained extensively in all genres of dance. She danced competitively throughout her life which led her to attend Theater Arts Preparatory School (TAPS) in Las Vegas! Audrey has choreographed all across the nation & has worked in many theater/film projects. She has also performed all across Kansas City in venues such as Music Hall, Folly Theater, & the Lyric Theater. Most recently, Audrey was in “Rocky Horror Picture Show” performed in Las Vegas!

“My favorite style of dance to teach is tap! I love the musicality and variety the style offers. The feeling when something clicks for one of my students is unmatched!”

“I love pushing my students to be the best they can be. My goal is to help them fall in love with dance as much as I have.”

Our girls Elliana, Mari, Hadley, & Lyla had the opportunity to perform at the @designkc_magazine gala night! We are so proud of these cuties!🩵⭐️

Introducing: Ashtyn Toepfer⭐️

Ashtyn has been dancing since she was three years old. She grew up dancing at Styles Dance Centre in Hays, KS where she had amazing mentors that led her to fall in love with dance. After high school, Ashtyn attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles to further her dance training. Since returning to Kansas, Ashtyn has received her degree in Art Education at the University of Kansas!

“My favorite style of dance to teach is Jazz! It’s a style that allows students to express themselves and show off their fun personalities, while still building their technique.”

“My favorite thing about teaching at DanceWorks is the positive environment that is created for the kids. Everyone deserves to have a place where they feel confident and loved, and DanceWorks is that place for so many young people. I am so grateful to be apart of that!”

Introducing: Madeline Brown⭐️

Madeline has been dancing since she was three years old & trained at the Kansas City Ballet! She performed as Clara in the Nutcracker with the Kansas City Ballet in 2011 & her favorite style of dance to teach is ballet!

Madeline’s favorite DWKC memory is, “All of the recitals and the first day we got to have dance class without our masks. The smiles, laughter, silly faces and joy we made that day is something I’ll never forget!”

“I love watching kids fall in love with dance. Introducing them to what an amazing form of expression it can be, how it can be both fun and freeing while also using great discipline is so rewarding and fun!”

Introducing: Tina Robertson⭐️

Tina started dancing at age 3 & began competing in 2nd grade until she graduated high school! She danced at Denise’s Dance Academy for 15 years where she was trained in ballet, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, musical theatre, hip hop, tap, & pointe! Tina was also a part of the Blue Valley Southwest Glitter Girls all 4 years of high school! Ultimately, Tina fell in love with choreographing & being a dance teacher when she started assistant teaching her freshman year of high school!

“My favorite styles to dance/ teach are hip hop, contemporary, and lyrical! Even though both styles are polar opposites, they are the reason I fell in love with dancing! Being able to share that passion with my students is a privilege and I feel extremely honored I get to do it as my job!”

“I love teaching because I want to be a mentor and someone my kids can look up to. Dance is truly my first love, and getting to share that love for dance with my kids is a feeling like no other. Being a part of Danceworks KC is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me and I’m exceedingly grateful to be a part of the DWKC family!”

Introducing: Dana Hunt⭐️

Dana has more than 25 years of experience in the dance/theater industry. She began her dance journey at age 3 & started teaching at just 14 years old in Nebraska! Dana attended college at the University of Kansas & has lived in Overland Park ever since! She has partnered with multiple theater companies & dance studios all across the country & throughout the Kansas City metro!

“My favorite style to dance is jazz, tap, lyrical and modern. I LOVE teaching all styles and I’m extremely passionate about teaching proper technique and giving dancers the tools they need for success in and out of the dance studio.”

“I want my students to look forward to coming to class and have an opportunity to express themselves in a supportive & positive environment where FUN is the number one rule. I’m so blessed to be part of this awesome studio family!”
